Welcome

Message From Our Rector

My Dear Friends,

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Web Site of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. As the Mother Church of the Diocese of Portland, the Cathedral has been a Beacon of Faith, Hope and Love for 150 years. As the Cathedral Church for all of Maine’s Catholics, it truly is a living witness of God’s love and presence among us. It was built in faith for the Greater Glory of God, and it continues to reach out and preach the Word of God to all who seek Him.

The Cathedral has also been a Beacon of Light for refugees and immigrants who have landed on Maine’s shores for the past 100 years, many of them from war-torn or discriminatory countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe. Today we have over 21 different nationalities in the Parish, with 16 different languages spoken. Our Cathedral School offers a Beacon of Learning to many of these refugee families and to other low-income families in this inner-city Parish.

I hope you will enjoy exploring our Web Site. God bless you.

Rev. Msgr. Paul F. Stefanko.
